How to Choose the Best Cordless Microphones

Cordless microphone is a portable gadget that magnifies your voice when talking or performing before a crowd. This is also known as a wireless microphone. It uses the same microphone frequency range: VHF, UHF and Giga Hertz.

UHF is fixed frequency and preferred by most professionals. VHF is a cheaper type yet also functional for all occasions. Gigahertz uses digital frequency like those used in phones. Digital transmissions use either digital hybrid or pure digital schemes. Some models used wideband FM modulation. They look the same as wireless microphones or clip on microphones.

One type of cordless microphone is the headset type. It is lightweight so it fits perfectly the head of the user. Another type is the cordless karaoke microphone introduced in Japan. The most popular distributors of this microphone are Radio Shack and Best Buy.

One type of cordless is the handheld type not connected to cables. This type is the most versatile and reliable. It is similar to the normal microphone sans the cords. It can also be the lavaliere or tie clip type. This is also known as the bodypack. It is attached to clothing and connected to a small transmitter through a cable. It is clipped on belts or pockets.

Some cordless microphones are suitable for children and are safe to use. Others include voice recognition or naturally speaking software. There are available miniature models in the market. Low cost models use infrared light for transmission but needs direct line of sight to avoid interference.

When buying a cordless microphone, one must consider quality, comfort, price and warranty.

A good quality cordless microphone should be effective even in long ranges. This means the wireless receiver does not get interrupted despite distance. Check the battery life. Good models have batteries that last for at least 10 consecutive hours. Omni directional microphones pick up all sides while cardioids are directional.

Also choose a unit with a strong resistance to feedback and one that can control high sound pressure levels.
Consider getting a lightweight microphone for easier handling. Lightweight models usually have light batteries also.

Prices are dependent greatly on the featured functions of the model. Some microphones can be as low as only. Check your lifestyle and needs to make sure you purchase the right microphone.

It is always wise to get products with a warranty. Most manufacturers offer 90 days warranty including labor and repair.

You may discover that your microphone is not working properly. Before contacting a technician, troubleshoot the unit first. Determine if the transmitter and receiver have enough power. The battery receiver must be fully charged.

Avoid the transmitter to touch directly with your skin. Check antenna damages to eliminate transmission problems. Avoid other electronic devices in the area to prevent interference reception. Avoid microphone and antenna lines crossed to avoid interference.

Turning on new transmitter - September 27 2010.mpg
On September 27, 2010 1015 The Hawk FM turned on a new Nautel Transmitter, doubling the power output of the radio station. The aim of the increased power is to 'fill holes' in the Quad County coverage area of Nova Scotia and to provide all listeners with a cleaner sound. It should also help people hear the station in office buildings, etc. Approval for the increase came from the CRTC on September 17, 2010. 10 days and we were on the air!
